Arts La'Olam is very excited to present an afternoon of free workshops led by fantastic artists in Christchurch Mansions:

1pm-2pm KORA FANTASTIA
Sura Susso, master kora player and percussionist from Gambia, is an internationally touring musician who has taken part in more than 500 shows in 30 countries spanning every continent. This workshop will give participants an in-depth insight into the musical traditions of West Africa and is sure to be a very special experience learning songs from Senegambia. http://www.la-olam.com/#/sura-susso-2/

2pm-3pm ZIMBABWEAN SHONA MBIRA & SPIRIT DANCE
Linos Wengara, master mbira player, singer, guitarist and dancer produces an album every year for radio stations in his home country of Zimbabwe. Linos teaches mbira (African piano) at SOAS Summer School and for this workshop will be combining his class with a lesson in Spirit Dance, traditional ancestral dances infused with the modern vibration to uplift and energise. http://www.la-olam.com/#/linos-wengara/ 

3pm-4pm BOSSA NOVA AND SAMBA SONGS
Corina Piatti, singer, songwriter, guitarist and experienced music teacher based in London sings in Spanish, Portuguese and English and will be teaching Brazilian singing in the Bossa Nova and Samba traditions. Corina writes her own soulful songs which can be heard on Calma, her last album, and will teach some of them during this workshop, expect surrealistic lyrics and simultaneous translations. http://www.la-olam.com/#/corina-piatti/

4pm-5pm MARIMBA JOURNEY
Nqobile Khoza, marimba master, is from a musical family, he started his musical career aged 9 years old, and by 12 years was touring internationally with a youth music group. Nqobile performs and teaches marimba, mbira and percussion in the southern African tradition. The celebratory music of marimba is instrumental to several southern African countries. As well as teaching the marimba and traditional songs Nqobile will tell the great story of the birth of Marimba Music and it's significance in the world today.
